I'm sorry Dewey is so sick. I was not familiar with that disease before seeing your post, which led me to read a few articles online. I use oils on my dogs all the time, but for different health challenges.
-- Given the nature of the illness, I would suggest starting with frankincense on the pads of his paws every 2 hours. Lavender topically on the sores and scabs, using FCO first to lubricate the dry scabbed areas and allow the oils to spread more easily (also around the scabbed areas). If any sores start inside his mouth, you can use a little on guard oil to help numb--don't use full clove. One article said to keep an eye on the inside of the mouth, lips, and gums because if they become sore the dog won't want to eat which will create an additional problem. You could also use Immortelle on the skin rather than, or in addition to, the lavender. Since Immortelle was specifically created for skin it is amazing, and contains frankincense, helichrysum, myrrh, lavender, rose, and sandalwood. The reason I suggest it is because it contains helichrysum, though you certainly can use lavender and helichrysum on the sores and around the scabs. Don't get the oils too close to his eyes. You could use a warm wash cloth to clean around his eyes before applying the oils. You could also dab a cotton swab in FCO and very carefully clean around the edges of the eyes to remove the yellow gunk.
Now, that's mostly the topical for the sores and around the scabs. But in addition to frankincense on the pads of each paw every couple of hours, and since he's a pitbull and therefore a larger dog, you can give him LLV daily (1 capsule of each), and you can give him 1 DDR Prime capsule daily, or use the oil blend along with the frankincense on his paws every 2 hours. They will help his system overall, and as Pat says, give his body the tools it needs to begin to normalize and heal itself.
I attached the dog care sheet in case you don't have it. It's a great reference and more can be obtained form AromaTools. I also attached a pic of a dog and the placement of his lymph nodes. When you apply the frankincense and DDR oil (unless you're using capsules), not only apply them to the pads of the paws, but massage them along his spine a couple of times a day, and over the lymph nodes in his neck, given that he is experiencing so much of the problem with this illness on his head, face, and ears.
Additionally, adding a drop of lemon to his water is a good thing.
Always, serenity and/or balance on his paws, diffused, or massaged on his spine if he is agitated from the condition.
Give Dewey a hug from me and my three pups....Liz
