JOB DESCRIPTION
Role
· An opportunity exists for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an established product development team in the HCL Welwyn Garden City and take part in delivering the next generation of business machines.
· Built on success and a reputation for delivering results on time, the group is continually working to improve its time to market by pursuing the latest product development techniques and applying them to their particular marketplace.
· The opportunity exists within the Mechanical Delivery team responsible for delivering mechanical and electro-mechanical designs. This involves design for medium level production volumes in plastics, sheet metal and elastomers for paper handling.
Qualifications
· The successful candidate will be educated to degree level with 5-10 years experience in a product development environment.
Key Skills
· The candidate's experience should include development of a complex mechanical design module including both mechanical and electro-mechanical components.
· Demonstrate awareness and application of analytical tools to aid the design process: FEA; working model; 3D tolerance analysis, Critical Parameter management, data analysis, knowledge of statistics in relation to proving machine performance.
· Structured problem solving and ability to make decisions/ recommendations based on data acquisition and analysis.
· The ability of applying quality tools: FMEA; FAST; Robust Design; 6 Sigma
Personal Attributes
· Ability to liaise with suppliers and third party design groups on a world-wide basis, travelling as necessary toIndia, Malaysia and Singapore
· Track record of applying quality tools: FMEA; FAST; Robust Design; 6 Sigma
· Possess good communication skills
· The ability to lead and mentor team members in the design environment
